Re: File:Mochtar Embut.jpg may be deleted

The file File:Mochtar Embut.jpg have also been granted permission via email and I would also like to send the proof of the email to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org. Please note that the email is in bahasa / Indonesian language, and only the specific part of the permission statement is using English. Please let me know if there is any problem. Cheers. Urgent OTRS request

I have been notified by an OTRS Bot that a request I submitted on 7th January was never actioned. I have resent the email today and would be grateful if someone would kindly look at it, as I have waited patiently for five months. The three files are from a web site that has explicitly given Creative Commons attribution permission and are important to illustrate a Wikipedia article. Any probs please let me know. [Ticket#2008071610032408] Permission Image:Standprobe Schnellboote.JPG (german)

Permission for File:Almaviva_logo.PNG

Hi, how can I achieve grant for using this logo ? It can be found at Company's website link title Thanks. --Omermedina (talk) 02:16, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

It's tagged as ineligible for copyright, but I don't think this is valid here (the red and yellow shapes are probably eligible). You need to contact the company and ask for it to release the image under a free license by sending the email at Commons:Email templates to permissions-commons wikimedia.org. However, I don't think this is likely to happen. Stifle (talk) 10:25, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

Can someone well-versed with permissions look at this ticket again?

I've a note on my commons talk about an image that may be deleted, and this was the discussion with the subject. Can someone who's good with photosubmissions put the finishing touches on this? --Brian McNeil / talk 07:21, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

Refers to File:David-Knopfler-myspace.jpeg. Checking now. Stifle (talk) 10:28, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
We never did get a final confirmation saying that the image was released under a free license. I'll ping the responsible agent to check in case there's something I missed. Stifle (talk) 10:33, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

These are photographs from a book first published in France in 1935. According to the descriptions, these are "Photographs from the Trocadéro Museum". So I would expect that museum to be the copyright holder.

So I find a bit surprising to read the statement "(for GFDL, cite source above as old copyright holder)"

Isn't there a confusion between the copyright holder of the English translation (who might have been granted from the French copyright holder the right to publish in English worlwide) and the copyright holder of the pictures. The English translation publisher probably has the right to publish the pictures together with the English translation, but I doubt that he may redistribute the pictures for another goal than accompanying an English translation.

Teofilo (talk) 20:30, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

These would almost certainly be {{PD-Art}} and {{PD-old-100}}. Stifle (talk) 08:28, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

File:Rico Daniels.jpg

  Resolved

I have been asked to resend permission for File:Rico Daniels.jpg. That is a royal pain in the arse as it involves tracking down an interview from months ago. Permission sent, and I expect someone will actually, like, read it this time. Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 14:46, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

The permission you sent us (via Ticket:2009031410026951) was not sufficient, as explained to you when we replied to your email back on March 14. Do you have that email, or do I need to resend it to you? If you need us to resend it, I hope you will, like, read it this time. (as you so politely requested from us above ;-) ). - Rjd0060 (talk) 15:01, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
No, I do not have that email. It never arrived. Nothing was done at the image in question either, where I also would have noticed. However, I fail to see how permission is insuficient. To read from the email sent "The licence I was thinking of is at http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/ - it lets people do as they will with the picture (potentially including stuff for profit, if they want to) so long as they say who took it." (me) Followed by "heres a photo as asked for." (Rico) It was asked for release under the licence, and he said 'as asked for', and then refers to the CC licence. Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 15:10, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
I've forwarded the email to you again. Appears there was a mixup with the agent who originally replied to you. We can handle this off of this noticeboard so this thread is resolved. - Rjd0060 (talk) 15:31, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
There is one thing to add to this thread: I apologise for being a little spiky. While obviously it was anoying, it wasn't a suitable response. I've been upset due to some real world stuff today. Thanks for your help, Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 16:09, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

Removing empty categories

Hey all, now that my bot's clearing through the backlog at Category:OTRS pending, there are a lot of empty categories piling up. Could someone go through and delete those categories which have been emptied by the bot? While you're at it, if someone could double-check the status of all the {{OTRS received}} images, that would help too. Thanks; all this will make the bot run a lot faster. Request permission to use #2007022710018192 for a non-profit web site. thanks

Judy

You don't need specific permission from us to use files that are hosted on the Commons because we only host files that are freely licensed. All you need to do is go to the image page, and read the license information, and follow the terms of the license. In this case, you are talking about File:JERUSALEM Mount of Olives Cemetery.JPG? That image states it is in the public domain. For more information, see Commons:Reusing_content_outside_Wikimedia. -Andrew c (talk) 12:47, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

I received notice that these two pics I uploaded are being considered for deletion because their permissions are in question. These two pics were some of the first I uploaded before I knew a lot about Wikicommons. Bottom Line: I own the pics, they are mine that I took in Iraq. I tried to change the ownership to reflect the "U.S. Army Soldier taken during the course of official duties" because I felt it would help with making them public. Apparently this brought them into question, or maybe it was something else I did wrong, not sure. Joshua S. Hearn (talk) 14:43, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for your email to OTRS and please be refered to my response. Both pics are OK now. Regards, AFBorchert (talk) 19:53, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

I have just left the OTRS for this file! I dont know if I did it correct.Tranletuhan (talk) 09:17, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

You need to add the ticket number you received for this email within the tag, instead of the link (cause you're linking back to the file itself). -- Deadstar (msg) 10:42, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
Actually, you don't do anything. It's ok to add the OTRS pending to show that you sent the e-mail in. But an OTRS agent should be the one who adds the confirmation and ticket number. Sending in a permission often isn't good enough. There are other things OTRS agents need to verify before the ticket is approved. So please be patient and wait for an OTRS agent to respond and then add the confirmation to the image.-Andrew c (talk) 14:43, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
I haven't found any OTRS ticket related to this image. Please resend your email to OTRS and please add a link pointing to this image within your email. Regards, AFBorchert (talk) 19:58, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

My OTRS

  Resolved

Hi everyone,

even according to my talk page it seems that I have some problems with my OTRS'. Can someone helps me to fix and to conclude the procedures? Thanks.

For the picture File:Granada Suburban Park HM.jpg the email with the permission was sent the 25th of october 2008 at 2:13 PM (Rome Time).

For the series of pictures in category Cinema Guido Guerra [1], already deleted (please restore them!), the permission email was sent the 23rd of october 2008 at 3,44 PM (Rome time). The deletion, and I asked to fix the problem before to delete them (I had no reply), devastated the related page on italian wikipedia [2]. I would like the pictures back, honestly. And not only me.

More bizarre than all of that the permission-email for [File:Cofradía de la Oración de Nuestro Señor en el Huerto de los Olivos y María Santísima de la Amargura, Granada, Semana Santa 2009.JPG] and for [File:Real, Venerable e Ilustre Cofradía de Nuestro Padre Jesús del Perdón y María Santísima de la Aurora, Granada, Semana Santa 2009 (38).JPG] was sent 16th of april 2009 at 6:09 PM (Rome time). Bizzarre because all the pictures in this series had their OTRS veryfied and concluded apart those 2.

Hope that's just a big misunderstanding and that we can fix successfully together all those failed OTRS (restoring the deleted files as well). I really thank you for your attention and your work. Sincerely--Giorgiomonteforti (talk) 06:55, 13 June 2009 (UTC)

Hi Giorgiomonteforti, regarding File:Granada Suburban Park HM.jpg I found ticket 2008102510011818 but you never responded to our last message. --AFBorchert (talk) 07:07, 13 June 2009 (UTC) P.S. I have just sent you a new email regarding this case. --AFBorchert (talk) 07:29, 13 June 2009 (UTC)
Regarding the images out of Category:Cinema_Guido_Guerra. You never responded to our response to ticket 2008102310044037. I deleted all these images on 31 May 2009 as there was never a follow-up to them (see also this notice by me on your talk page). Please obtain a permission for these images as described in our response sent to you by email. As soon as we get the permission, we will restore the images. File:New century guild PHMC marker.jpg

  Resolved

The New century guild PHMC marker.jpg which I uploaded has been tagged{{OTRS pending}} for more than 30 days. Since the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission has a policy of copyrighting and trademarking all their markers after a certain date, please go ahead and delete this marker. I have been communicating with the Commission staff (Karen Galle) about their policy, but so far no conclusion has been reached. I asked them to at least post their policy on their web site, and to consider granting permission for use. Anyone care to join me in this effort? --Davidt8 (talk) 18:53, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

Done: Thanks for your efforts in obtaining a permission and I hope that you eventually will succeed. Just drop me a note then with a pointer to the OTRS ticket number as soon as this happens. Regards, AFBorchert (talk) 21:37, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

Deletion of my OTRS-Pending-Files

Hi,

I have tagged the following files as OTRS-Pending on April, 23th. On April, 25th I sent an email regarding the permissions of these files to permissions-commons-de@wikimedia.org. Now they were tagged as 'no OTRS permission'. Could anyone please search for my mail on de-permissions and stop the deletion-process of this files? Thank you.

BONO is a Norwegian copyright organization that has an exclusive right to enter into into agreements for the use of their member's works. Can somebody have a look? --Kjetil_r 22:36, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

These two images are covered by the still open ticket:2009060710018969 and I have tagged both images accordingly with {{OTRS received}}. An OTRS member took already care of this case and I have posted a notice at OTRS that points back to this section such that your comment can be considered. File:LEWIS_FLAG_1_(resized).jpg

File:LEWIS_FLAG_1_(resized).jpg was bot tagged for deletion due to old OTRS pending, uploader reported to me privately that he has emailed OTRS 3 times, and gotten acknowledgement 2 times, yet file was never marked with a ticket number. Uploader is John Stanley, he is also the copyright holder, as this is a work-for-hire promo picture for his play, which is produced by his company. Gigs (talk) 23:56, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

I can confirm two emails only. Unfortunately, it was not possible until now to close this ticket successfully and the uploader is invited to follow the instructions sent to him in the two responses. I've tagged the image with the associated image number. Regards, AFBorchert (talk) 07:49, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

They don't exist, or at least not that I could find. I searched for both file names, and variations thereof. I also browsed through the latest English language OTRS tickets, and didn't find them there (since this image was uploaded within the last 12 hours). There is a slight chance that the user either e-mailed a non-English queue or the wrong e-mail address, and forgot to specifically mention the file names. But that seems unlikely. I'd say that we never received permission e-mails for these images.-Andrew c (talk) 12:29, 20 June 2009 (UTC)

Please verify permission for this images (see original e-mail on User:Vizu/Permissions#Kuvakin and provide OTRS ticket number. Thank you. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:16, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

This is ticket:2009061510020628 in the permissions-ru queue since 15 June 2009 which has not yet been handled by an OTRS member. The quote on User:Vizu/Permissions#Kuvakin does not match the email in that ticket exactly but is fairly close. I cannot, however, process that ticket myself as I unfortunately do not speak Russian. I noticed that some of the uploads by User:Emilymiller123 have OTRS tickets but these, File:Dr. Placik Abdominoplasty.jpg, File:Dr.PlacikAbdominoplasty2.jpg, File:Dr.OttoPlacikVaginoplasty.JPG, File:Dr.PlacikBreastReduction.jpg and File:Dr.PlacikAbdominoplasty.JPG apparently from the same source, are not ticketed. Should they be using the same ticket or should they be nominated for deletion? Ww2censor (talk) 15:32, 20 June 2009 (UTC)

The uploader has sent two emails, each releasing one picture only. I have emailed him (Ticket#2009060810032111) asking if he gives the same licence permission on these - Peripitus (talk) 05:15, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
I've just tagged several of those images as NPD. I also removed all of the advertising from the images. Are the OTRS emails coming from the doctor or the person that is uploading the images under 2 different user names (socks)? Emilymiller123 (talk · contribs), Sarahjjohnson123 (talk · contribs), and 75.63.221.230 (talk · contribs) are all the same person. - ALLSTRecho wuz here @ 05:49, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
The same uploader seems to send e-mails separately for each image. If you can wait a week, I think we can get through all the backlog and verify them. Quadell (talk) 21:25, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
Thanks Quadell. Ww2censor (talk) 03:54, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

Hi! Can someone verify this image situation? It says that has permission, but is really there a permission to this image? If not, then this image is a copyvio because it's a book cover. Regards, Sdrtirs (talk) 08:33, 22 June 2009 (UTC)

It doesn't say anything about permission or OTRS that I could find. So I believe that image is outside the scope of this noticeboard. You can tag it as NPD if you feel that is appropriate (since there is no OTRS permission on file, or at least no ticket number attached to the image).-Andrew c (talk) 03:23, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

can anyone see an approved OTRS image or is access gated?

Hello - basic question here. If I become a member of OTRS and request use of an image, and if permission is granted, may I post the image on a web site for all to see? Or is access to the photo limited to other persons who have OTRS permission? Thank you.

OTRS members only approve images. If you are the copyright holder of an image, you can e-mail OTRS to let us know. Once we confirm this, you can post the image and anyone can see it -- not just OTRS members. Quadell (talk) 21:18, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
I'm not sure what you are getting at. Are you trying to re-use an image on the commons? You are free to reuse any of our images as long as you follow the licenses. You don't need OTRS permission or anything else from us to re-use the images. See COM:REUSE.-Andrew c (talk) 03:25, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

Could somebody check if a mail from Stephen G. Haines has been received at OTRS regarding the File:Stephen G. Haines.jpg?

Thanks you, -- Marcel Douwe Dekker (talk) 20:25, 22 June 2009 (UTC)

I'm not seeing anything. (Then again, I'm pretty new to OTRS, and not fully comfortable with the OTRS search interface yet.) Quadell (talk) 21:19, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
Ok thanks. I will just wait. -- Marcel Douwe Dekker (talk) 23:23, 22 June 2009 (UTC)

Ok thank you both. I will contact Stephen G. Haines again personally, and in a while (within a week) I will take the appropriate action. As far as I am concerned this is resolved so far. Thanks again. -- Marcel Douwe Dekker (talk) 11:21, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

Pay attention when deleting images with missing OTRS ticket

Hi, I only want to remind OTRS volunteers who are also admins that many images have been given an {{OTRS pending}} template at upload time although they didn't need one. This is because many newcomers don't fully understand what the permission field is for, and feel invited to do so by the upload form. Please keep that in mind when deleting files in Category:No OTRS permission, many "own work" files only need the tags to be removed. I am not aware of any problem so far, I just thought it could be useful to remind the fact. --Eusebius (talk) 09:30, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

Currently more than 200 files in Category:No OTRS permission. Enjoy. --Eusebius (talk) 11:31, 26 June 2009 (UTC)
The bot is tagging images that have OTRS tickets attached to them, but that the OTRS volunteer I guess forgot to delete the NPD tag. I.e. File:The_Real_Adam.jpg. I guess we probably need a human to review those (it might not be a good idea to have the bot simply delete the NPD tag for images with OTRS tickets). But maybe there could be another category? images still tagged for deletion that have OTRS tickets? or is that too complex and we should just leave it as it is? Yeah maybe that. -Andrew c (talk) 13:18, 26 June 2009 (UTC)
There don't seem to be too many of them in proportion, manual removal should be fine. --Eusebius (talk) 15:52, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

Resent permission for Fresh Concepts Sign.png

  Resolved

Hello, I just (June 23, 2009) resent a permission to OTRS for Fresh Concepts Sign.png from the copyright holder (aka The Mac Weekly).

Sincerely, Oxenbrigg (talk) 17:43, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

Hello,
I've sent an e-mail concerning the permission.
Kind regards, Kameraad Pjotr 18:13, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

I got permission for several images

I send two different emails for permission regarding these images:

Please look at them. I would seriously appreciate it. Rvk41 (talk) 22:02, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

I processed the first one, File:JacobsvsWalker2.jpg, which was authorized on its own in an e-mail. I assume the rest are still in the queue, waiting processing. Quadell (talk) 20:22, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

I'm trying to determine whether this picture is eligible to be relicensed and the page seems kind of strange. It is claimed as own work by uploader but it also has an OTRS ticket. On top of that it looks very old and it's unlikely it is own work. Can someone check out the ticket and help me out here please? --Yarnalgo (talk) 08:00, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

Also:
The first two of that list and the one I originally mentioned all have the same ticket and the last two have a different one. --Yarnalgo (talk) 08:06, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

In the OTRS ticket, Elad Ravid (User:Eladra, the uploader) states that he is "the creator and/or sole owner of the exclusive copyright" of all five images mentioned here. But note this news article, which names Elad Ravid as the Yad Mordechai Marketing Director. I believe that, as marketing director, he has the right to release these images under a free license. Quadell (talk) 17:48, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

I answered the ticket originally; it seems fine and I don't have anything to add to Quadell. Stifle (talk) 18:34, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

Cricket videos and ticket #2008012610013313

Several cricket-related files uploaded by THUGCHILDz (talk · contribs) are tagged with {{PermissionOTRS|id=2008012610013313}}, but it seems that, at least in some cases, this tag was added by the uploader. Given that this user has also had a number of their uploads deleted as copyvios, I'd appreciate it if an OTRS agent could check the ticket and see if it's valid and if it really applies to these files.

Also, if the ticket is in fact valid, could someone please contact the source of these files and ask them to reupload File:This is batting.OGG which was lost last year due to a MediaWiki bug. —Ilmari Karonen (talk) 18:40, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

HersfoldOTRSBot opt-out list updated

Hello again. This is in a new section so it gets noticed, but a few sections up it was mentioned that I'd added a new feature to User:HersfoldOTRSBot that allows it to remind OTRS volunteers about images they've tagged as {{OTRS received}} after they've been in the pending category for a total of 30 days. Unfortunately, I hadn't quite forseen the fact that this would mean a very large number of reminders for some people. As a result, I've added a second opt-out list for this bot specifically for OTRS volunteers who don't wish to receive these reminders. If you add yourself to this list, you will still get any deletion notices the bot would normally give you, unless you explicitly add yourself to that list as well. Both opt-out lists can be found at User:HersfoldOTRSBot/Opt Out. If anyone has any questions, please let me know as soon as possible. Thanks. Hersfold (talk/work) 19:12, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

An opt-out list sound like a good idea, but perhaps it would be even better if you could make the bot combine the reminders for each user and deliver them, say, once a day in a single message (rather than leaving separate redundant notes for each file minutes apart, as in your link)? —Ilmari Karonen (talk) 19:26, 27 June 2009 (UTC)
I'm trying to look into this; the only problem with that approach is that if the bot should happen to crash, it gets blocked, gets new messages, or a server error occur during the run (the latter two being more likely at this point), then it's possible the bot may not have notified anyone of the actions it took. By issuing one notice per image, I know that at most only one message didn't get through the mail. This may be implemented at some point in the future, but with the backlog cleared at this point it probably won't be a priority. Hersfold (talk/work) 21:35, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

Can someone please check the OTRS ticket for File:2001-2004 Headquarters for the press group Le Monde, Paris, .jpg, as I believe it to be copyrighted because France does not have freedom of panorama. I just wanted to check that the architect Christian de Portzamparc's permission wasn't included on the ticket before going to deletion requests. Thanks, Rambo's Revenge (en.wiki) 09:50, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

This ticket (as of today) only references authorizations from the photographers. Any image referencing this ticket and needing another authorization (architect) should be nominated for deletion. --Eusebius (talk) 10:19, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

File:Albert Lebrun 1937.jpg may be deleted

"The File:Albert Lebrun 1937.jpg which you uploaded has been tagged "OTRS pending" for more than 30 days. This tag indicates that an email setting out permission to use the file was sent to the OTRS team. Unfortunately, we cannot find any record that such an email has been received, and accordingly the file remains without permission. Unless the OTRS team receives evidence that permission has been granted within 15 days of today's date, the file will be deleted. If you have already sent the permission, please re-send it to "permissions-commons-at-wikimedia.org" now. Please quote the file name in your email. Hello. I have received this message from a bot on Commons.
"File:Albert Lebrun 1937.jpg" is a derivative work, a cropped image, from "File:Hymans-Lebrun-Sorbonne-exposition-1937.JPG", which seems to have a perfectly valid OTRS permission :
"The permission for use of this work has been verified and archived in the Wikimedia OTRS system.
It is available as ticket #2009051110008099 for users with an OTRS account. To confirm the permission, please contact someone with an OTRS account or leave a note at the OTRS noticeboard.
Ticket link: https://secure.wikimedia.org/otrs/index.pl?Action=AgentTicketZoom&TicketNumber=2009051110008099."
That's all I know about this matter., Octave.H (talk) 18:47, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

To solve this problem: The original had not had his OTRS permission recived at the time of your derivative. You uploaded the file with the template "OTRS-pending", which reads: An email containing details of the permission for this file has been sent.... So if you not complete this information with the received OTRS ticket you should not wounder, if someone asks for the Email you announce with your upload ;) I added the OTRS ticket to the derivative. --Martin H. You do not need permission from us to use the image. To properly reuse the image, all you have to do is follow the license of the image. Go to the image page, and scroll down the "licensing" section. There, on this particular image, the uploader has chosen two different licenses for you to choose from. Please note: Neither the Wikimedia Foundation, nor the authors of articles on Wikimedia sites, nor the volunteers answering on this channel provide legal advice. It is your responsibility, if you intend to reuse content from Wikimedia sites, to determine how the licenses of the content that we host apply to your intended uses. Good luck.-Andrew c (talk) 13:22, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

This image had a successful OTRS submission on May 26th, 2009052510025875. But it seems the OTRS agent didn't add the ticket to the image?? Anyone know more on this? It seems that another agent handled the June 30th re-request now, and this image is fine. Authorization sent twice for File:Plínio Sampaio.jpg

Please consider my two messages sent to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org (the first one on June 5th and the second on June 30th 2009) for the authorization of the file. Up to now it is tagged and "can be speedy deleted".

Could you pls. check it out and let me know what is going on? Thanks a lot. Regards. Yone (talk) 17:49, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

This is not an English language ticket. Remember, you are welcome to write in any language you want. The Commons should NOT give preference to English. In fact, if you write in, say Portuguese, you will probably draw the attention of OTRS admins who can handle this ticket. While I have spent my time doing the research into this ticket, I cannot do anything else because once I have located this info, I am not equipped linguistically to process the ticket (sorry...). All I can say is the ticket, which has an ID number 3078009, is locked to an agent now, and in another day or two, if not handled by that agent, will be unlocked. There is also a larger backlog with some of the non-English language queues. So be patient, and someone will process this ticket. Thanks. -Andrew c (talk) 20:20, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

Please can you check OTRS on this file

Please can you review File:Sarah_Michelle_G.jpg. Thank You Garda40 (talk) 19:26, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

No OTRS ticket. The uploader simply added a blank template to the image. The image was a copyrighted press photo, so I have deleted it (and the other upload from IMDB that the user had uploaded). I've also notified/warned the uploader. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.-Andrew c (talk) 20:14, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

OTRS Wait

Hello, all. I (or rather, User:HersfoldOTRSBot) noticed a new category in Category:OTRS pending, Category:OTRS wait. I've set the bot up now so it should stop crashing on unrecognized categories, but I'm wondering what the purpose of this category is and if my bot needs to be dealing with it.

For reference, my bot currently goes through OTRS pending and marks images for deletion that have been tagged with {{OTRS pending}} for more than 30 days. It also notifies the uploaders of this marking unless they have opted out of notifications. It ignores images marked with {{OTRS received}}, as presumably these are being actively worked on. The way it bases the age of these taggings is by the names of the categories, so if the bot is to take action on these new "wait" templates, I'll need to figure some other way to date the files. Hersfold (talk/work) 01:52, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

Not sure what OTRS wait is, but I think it wouldn't hurt for the bot to go through OTRS received as well. It wouldn't surprise me if we have images that have been tagged for months with that template. Having a bot nudge the uploader may help speed things along, or at least get the process rolling for deleting the images that never received proper permission.-Andrew c (talk) 02:45, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
I've been given previous instruction to ignore these templates; the problem with marking these for deletion is that some attempt was made (and acknowledged) to confirm permission for these. Try as we might to make them so, bots aren't the most polite when it comes to nudging uploaders. Hersfold (talk/work) 03:15, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
Maybe in that case the user to ping is the OTRS volunteer who has put the tag, so that he can close the case himself if appropriate. --Eusebius (talk) 06:05, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, that is a good idea, assuming only OTRS volunteers have added the template. In most circumstances, that is clearly the case. Pinging the person who added the template, under the assumption they are an OTRS volunteer sounds like a good idea. -Andrew c (talk) 13:06, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
In this case I would not be encouraged to use OTRS received any more :-). It is the uploader who should solve the matter and who should be warned. I have been using it assuming that it is like OTRS pending but with an additional information, and that the permission could be confirmed somehow. Perhaps OTRS received could be substituted by OTRS pending with a parameter added for ticket number. Anyway it should be reworded, instead of "If an email cannot be found in the OTRS system": if a validated email... --V.Riullop (talk) 09:51, 26 June 2009 (UTC)
I don't see that as an expectation on the OTRS volunteer to "solve the case", but only as a reminder that the case is still open: if there is no valid permission after a reasonable time, then the OTRS volunteer in charge of the case, who is the person most aware of the context, should delete or nominate for speedy deletion. It is just a matter of efficiency, it avoids another admin/volunteer to investigate the case himself (thus also avoiding language issues and further delays). It is common to find pictures with an "OTRS received" template that were just forgotten by the OTRS volunteer, associated to tickets without any conclusive note nor reminder to the customer. The "pending reminder" status in OTRS can help avoid that as well. --Eusebius (talk) 10:28, 26 June 2009 (UTC)
Ok, Eusebius, it makes sense to me. --V.Riullop (talk) 08:17, 27 June 2009 (UTC)
This was (apparently) just created by a user who felt that it was needed. I on the other hand think it is inappropriate and have asked the user about it and I expect the template and category to be deleted shortly. - Rjd0060 (talk) 04:29, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

It should be deleted based on the wording of the related template. It's basically saying "I'm uploading this image anyway, even though it's not free.. then I'm sending an email to the author asking for permission, if the author says no, hopefully no one else will notice and the image will get to stay anyway!" Just the way I see it. - ALLSTRecho wuz here @ 14:39, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

I would recommend deleting the template, and ignoring it in the meantime. The order of events is
  1. Request permission
  2. Upload image
  3. Email OTRS
with #2 and #3 possible in either order. But #1 has to be first. Stifle (talk) 15:58, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
BTW, it's not necessarily a good idea to ignore OTRS-received, because oftentimes we get an email saying "you have permission to use this on Wikipedia", we put an OTRS-received on the image and mail back saying "more specific statement needed", and we never hear from them again. If OTRS-received is ignored, this runs the risk of images staying in OTRS limbo. I'm not entirely sure what to do with them, but ignoring it might not be right. Stifle (talk) 16:01, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
I'll go with Eusebius's suggestion of pinging the OTRS volunteer. It may take some time for me to figure out how to get the bot to figure that out reliably, but it's on the to-do list. Hersfold (talk/work) 16:28, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
I'll be deleting the template and category once I talk to the user who created them. I agree completely with Stifle above. Also, pinging the OTRS volunteer who added the received tag is a good idea. When I originally asked Hersfold to run this bot, I said to ignore those 'received' files so they could be manually reviewed. But if the bot can do it, that's excellent. Anyhow, thanks again Hersfold for the bot. It is going great. And while I'm here, thanks to all of the OTRS volunteers who are helping monitor this page! - Rjd0060 (talk) 02:49, 26 June 2009 (UTC)
Everything seems to be working now - the bot will issue a one-time notice per file to the OTRS volunteer who added the {{OTRS received}} template. The bot will keep track of whether it's issued that notice or not by a comment on the image description page - if this is removed or modified while the received template is still present, the notice will be given again (sorry). These notices are not subject to the opt-out list at this time; you will receive these notices whether you are on the list or not. Additionally, the bot will remove any unnecessary templates (a confirmation template makes received and pending templates unnecessary, a received template makes a pending template unnecessary). Everything else should run as before, but I'll keep a close eye on the bot for this first run just in case. Hersfold (talk/work) 02:46, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

Sorry for my bad english. I'm spanish native. I'm in holidays, and go home monday. please wait for my notices. Thank you at all. There is no bad intentions in the template as ALLSTR supposed. The template shows when the permission was requested, to let OTRS know if the solicited periods (two weeks) was over. --Rizome (talk) 11:42, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

OK. The reason this is bad is because you must first ask for permission, then use the image. Stifle (talk) 11:14, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
When I write to the author of an image, and he is agree to distribute his image, then I send him the "permission template", and I upload the image to commons, to show the author, how the image will be shown in the future, and how he is recognised, and the terms of the new license. Othe way, there would be needed other explanations unnecessary with my method.
This template, categorizes the image, and shows date and month when the file was uploaded. The template says that the tramitation-period is only a couple of weeks, in wich the author will give the permission, or not. Anyone who uses this template, is agree to delete by himself the image if it does not obtain the necessary permit. If two weeks are over, and the user dont delete the image, he is breaking his promise, and could be blocked in commons because of abuse.
We could use a bot to categorice the image in Category:OTRS wait/OTRS wait as of ''date'', to make easy to recognize wich images are over the tramitation-period or not. --Rizome (talk) 07:31, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
Please just use {{OTRS pending}}. It is already used with this semantics. --Eusebius (talk) 09:17, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

(I'm not an english-speaker. Sorry for my bad english.)

I thought that {{OTRS pending}} was used to designate files which the e-mail was sent, not for images wich the author didn't sent the mail to OTRS yet.

Para firmar tu intervención, añade a la plantilla este parámetro: « |signature=--~~~~ »

--Rizome (talk) 15:59, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
Maybe you shouldn't upload files that you don't have permission to upload? Or maybe just e-mail the permission before or when you upload the file? I don't see how OTRS wait would be necessary. -Andrew c (talk) 16:23, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
Rizome, you can not upload files until after you receive permission to use them. If you upload them before you have permission, they are copyright violations. - Rjd0060 (talk) 18:12, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
When I upload an image not GNU licensed yet, it is because the author asked me how it would be shown if he license it with GNU or CC-BY-SA. In this case, I use {{OTRS wait}} to show I'm in touch with the author. --Rizome (talk) 18:46, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
You must not upload an image not licensed yet. I can't see how it would make a difference for the author to see "how it would be shown". Stifle (talk) 14:02, 5 July 2009 (UTC)
And now, nomined for deletion. :( --Rizome (talk) 07:43, 6 July 2009 (UTC)

Help with photos by Marek Szczepanek

Hi, User:Pkuczynski has obtained permission from photographer Marek Szczepanek to upload the latter's photo, as outlined at User:Pkuczynski/Marek Szczepanek. I asked Pkuczynski to forward the email to the OTRS team and he have done so (ref:User talk:Pkuczynski#Marek Szczepanek's photos); however, it seems no ticket have been processed and attached to the relevant photos (202 of them by the count on Pkuczynski's subpage). Could a volunteer look into this and help Pkuczynski to complete the OTRS submission? Thank you. Jappalang (talk) 01:30, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

This concerns ticket #2009052510029228. User:Pkuczynski forwarded an e-mail, in Polish, from Marek Szczepanek, but didn't say what images he was referring to. The OTRS volunteer wrote Pkuczynski back, asking for links to the specific images on Commons that were being referred to. It doesn't appear that Pkuczynski has responded. Furthermore, I can't verify whether Szczepanek actually agreed to release the images under the GFDL, since my Polish isn't good enough. Quadell (talk) 16:45, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
Ah, I think Pkuczynski must have forgotten to indicate which images, but I believe he means all photos listed at User talk:Pkuczynski#Marek Szczepanek's photos. Jappalang (talk) 22:47, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
I sent Pkuczynski a follow-up e-mail (through the OTRS system) asking if he could provide further details of permission, or if he could get Marek Szczepanek to give further details. Quadell (talk) 18:01, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

Hi, after receiving deleation warning on my talk page, I have just forwarded the permissions for the three above-stated pictures to permissions-commons-de@wikimedia.org (in German). All the best from Dresden, Peter --Bigbug21 (talk) 16:56, 21 June 2009 (UTC)

Still unresolved. --Bigbug21 (talk) 18:43, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

Wrestling OTRS tickets

I uploaded a about ten or so pictures a short while ago and e-mailed the owner of them to gain his permission then forwarded that onto here, I even received an e-mail reply telling me I had an OTRS ticket number (#2009053110015016) but now the files are being flagged for deletion in under 15 days. I've not done this before so have I done something wrong or has there been an oversight? FreddiusMercurium (talk) 17:47, 6 July 2009 (UTC)

The OTRS system is sort of stupid because it by default "bottom posts", which means the newest reply to you may be found at the very bottom of the e-mail. In this case, an agent handled your ticket, replied to you, and apparently you haven't read this reply because presumably it was at the very bottom of the e-mail and you didn't look that far down. Go back to that e-mail and scroll down to the bottom. The main issue is the permission you sent in didn't state what license the copyright holder was releasing these images. We really need a definitive statement such as "I declare that I am the owner of these images, and I am releasing them under the free license X." A more detailed reply can be found Commons:Email templates. The best thing to do is to just get the copyright holder to e-mail us directly with such a declaration, and make sure the ticket # is in the header so we can keep all communications together. Thanks.-Andrew c (talk) 20:38, 6 July 2009 (UTC)

Hello:

I'm writing to request permission to use File:Evstafiev-bosnia-sarajevo-funeral-reaction.jpg in a journal article that will be published in Emotion. The journal requires "correspondence from the source of the photograph (i.e., a letter or e-mail) confirming permission to publish the photographs in the journal." Are you able to provide this? Here's the OTRS ticket link: https://ticket.wikimedia.org/otrs/index.pl?Action=AgentTicketZoom&TicketID=3131631.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Best,

Heather Urry

We cannot give that sort of permission here. You are welcome to try to contact the photographer or copyright holder, who should be listed on the image description page. But, with that said, have you seen COM:REUSE? All images on the commons are licensed freely, and you are welcome to use them AS LONG as you follow the terms of the free licenses. -Andrew c (talk) 16:16, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

The uploader claims to have forwarded two emails to OTRS regarding this photo. Can somebody have a look? --Kjetil_r 09:48, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

Yes, we have received 2 e-mails, one 5+ days ago, one 6+ days ago. I have merged them together. That said, our backlog is just over 7 days, and furthermore, this ticket is in Norwegian, and therefore may need to wait even longer until someone who can read Norwegian handles the ticket. Just be patient, and an agent will get to it sometime. -Andrew c (talk) 15:04, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
Does the permissions queue even have a (active) volunteer who speaks Norwegian? For some reason, I lost access to permissions-commons sometime last year, and I don't know of any other Norwegians having access to that queue. I guess that is why we (=no.wikipedia) normally ask users to forward permissions to info-no rather than to permissions-commons. --Kjetil_r 00:11, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
You can request access back to permissions-commons at otrswiki:Admin requests. Stifle (talk) 14:02, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

Help needed

Hello, Please could you have a look at my File:Royan_frontdemer_1960.jpg. I placed "OTRS pending" models on it (I don't know much about the use of it, maybe I mistook, don't hesitate to modify) on the timestamp I mentioned, the day when I sent an email to Yvon company to ask for their permission. I am (still) waiting for their answer. Thanks, Jack ma (talk) 06:22, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

You should upload the file when you have the permission, and afterwards forward it to OTRS. --V.Riullop (talk) 10:39, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
Well received! Thanks for having fixed it (I sent no mail to OTRS, I have to ? I could not find its email address in the model). I will re-launch Yvon company next week (despite the holidays ;-). Regards, Jack ma (talk) 13:49, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

Megan Joy images

Can someone please take a look at File:Megan-joy-anoop.jpg and File:MeganOnTour.JPG? It seems to me that the uploader put the OTRS on the images himself and it seems to be copied from this image, File:Lil_Rounds.jpg. Aspects (talk) 06:09, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

You are absolutely correct. User just copy and pasted the ticket info. Ticket actually didn't discuss those two images, just the lil_rounds. I've deleted those two images, and contacted the uploader.-Andrew c (talk) 12:11, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

Question on these 2 images

I was wondering if someone with OTRS access could kindly check the permission for these 2 relatively new Commons images? I am a bit curious because they were uploaded with an OTRS ticket in January 2009--quite recently--and Aersaers, the uploader himself/herself, placed the ticket...rather than an Admin as one would expect. The images also don't show up on the flickrlink which may or may not be suspicious:

I'm trying to assume good faith and hope the permission does check out. As former President Reagan once said: 'Trust but verify.' If it is indeed OK, perhaps they could be removed from the "images not found" category. Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 07:44, 16 July 2009 (UTC)

Those OTRS tickets were stolen from another image. I've deleted the files and warned the uploader. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. -Andrew c (talk) 14:26, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
  • Thanks for checking them out. It looked really suspicious given the fact the OTRS ticket was added on the same day by the uploader. I guess this happens numerous times. I usually look at who places the OTRS ticket on an image file. With kind Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 20:21, 16 July 2009 (UTC)

Request for advice: would this need an OTRS?

<Copied from a correspondence with Stifle> Hi Stifle, I found large sized images on Commons licensed under CC but on Flickr, they are smaller in size and marked copy-righted. I contacted the Flickr user through email, and he confirmed that he is the uploader of the files at Commons. Should I forward the email to OTRS so that his intent can be made clear with an OTRS ticket and avoid any misunderstanding in the future, or just ignore it? Jappalang (talk) 09:24, 16 July 2009 (UTC)

Good question. The main issue with flickr is that it's hard to connect an email address with a flickr account. I'm not honestly sure what's best to do with this; try Commons:Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard. Stifle (talk) 09:27, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
So is there any action to take? A clarification: I contacted him through Flickrmail, which for my setting is configured to deliver a copy of the Flickrmail to my email account. Jappalang (talk) 10:01, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
In my personal opinion, since I cannot e-mail a Flickr user through the OTRS system for verification, the best thing to do is to request that the Flickr user simply change the licenses on Flickr so that information is publicly available. Flickr allows individuals to choose a free license, and we have bots and admins (many more than OTRS volunteers) who can pass the flickrreview much more easier than dealing with an OTRS ticket (especially given the fact that we cannot directly verify the e-mail due to flickrmail not being compatible with OTRS). That said, you could always send in the e-mails you received to OTRS, and see how an agent handles them. If there are a lot of images, and this may be a continuing issue, it may be best to simply post an OTRS confirmation on the uploader's talk page stating they have permission to upload works that are also posted by flickr user X (as opposed to tagging every individual image). But again, the easiest thing for us would be for the flickr user to simply change the license via flickr.-Andrew c (talk) 14:14, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
The issue here is that the images that are on Commons are not on flickr.
Perhaps the flickr user could place a note with his username, or an OTRS ticket number, or some other identifier, on his flickr profile. Stifle (talk) 15:01, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
Oh, I get it. The images here are larger. Still... I like what I wrote above ;P -Andrew c (talk) 20:08, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
All right, I have sent him a Flickrmail, informing him of this thread and asking him to either change the Flickr licenses or state his Wikimedia identity in his Flickr profile. Jappalang (talk) 22:02, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
Well, some good news. Namq has stated in his Flickr profile that he is User:Akumiszcza. He has too many flickr images to change the licensing conveniently. "I am user Akumiszcza on Wikimedia Commons, so if you find some photos there under CC licence that are copyrighted on flickr, please use Wikimedia version." should be sufficient. Any other opinions? Jappalang (talk) 05:46, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
Comment Perhaps an Admin can do a flickrreview or make 1 OTRS ticket for all this person's images here based on this clear message. Cheers, --Leoboudv (talk) 04:33, 18 July 2009 (UTC)
